From Tech to Whisky: My Journey of Innovation in the Spirits Industry
I'm an entrepreneur with a flair for creating unique brands, blending my tech background with a passion for the spirits industry. My journey began with Wooju, a social decision-making app that gained backing from Microsoft’s London Accelerator programme and featured in Dragon’s Den. Building on this tech experience, I ventured into the world of whisky with YoCo Club, a subscription service that delivered handpicked single malts to enthusiasts, combining my love for technology with a new-found passion for whisky. This path led me to establish PeatReekers, a brand that delves into the rich narrative of Scotland's distilling history. After 2 years, I received and accepted an offer from Loch Lomond Group to acquire PeatReekers in return for equity in the Group and to become the Head of Innovation.
Moving to Loch Lomond Group, I had the exciting opportunity to develop new spirit brands from the ground up. My focus was on blending creativity with market understanding to create products that stand out and speak to consumers. My journey reflects my passion for innovation and a deep-seated love for crafting brands that tell a story and create a unique place in the market. During my time, I created:
Spearhead Whisky - distilled in a Coffey-style still from 100% malted barley, aged in ex-bourbon barrels and finished in a combination of fire and infrared-toasted virgin American oak barrels for a boldly sweet spirit.
Noble Rebel - a blended malt Scotch whisky unlike any other. Distilled, blended and matured under the expert eye of maverick Master Blender, Michael Henry, resulting in a series of blends of familiar flavours with an unexpected twist.
Plant Hunter Rum - an adventurous blend of Caribbean rums from Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Indonesia; infused with four key botanicals to create a liquid that’s unique and mixes perfectly.
Forrit Hard Seltzer - crafted from distilled alcohol, blended with sparkling water and lifted with 100% natural flavours. A Hard Seltzer that’s bursting with botanical loveliness, while packing a real punch of tastiness.
After 4 years and a few IP hurdles, the original deal to acquire PeatReekers fell through, which was extremely disappointing but I learned a lot and decided it was time to move on and launch my own exciting brands again.
The first of my exciting new ventures is Living Souls, a whisky brand born from the belief that the most remarkable whiskies are often those that wander off the beaten track. We seek out overlooked and unconventional spirits, then elevate them into small batch releases that speak through flavour, not fame. With quarterly bottlings, each expression is crafted to showcase character, drinkability and depth. We bottle releases that are made to be opened, shared and remembered. Living Souls is my way of telling stories through spirit, where every release captures a moment of soul, substance and flavour.
Following that, I co-founded Alumni Whisky, the first Scotch whisky brand created specifically for the alumni of America. We produce limited edition single malts releases in partnership with leading universities, each release celebrating the school spirit and shared experiences of alumni communities. Our first bottling launched in May 2025, with availability on shelf via Spec’s Liquor Stores across Texas and online shipping to 45 states via Bevstack, supported by our US importer, Pacific Edge. Alumni Whisky is where academic pride meets exceptional Scotch, crafted for drinking, collecting, and remembering.
